CGSM 'Rules of the Road'

Conditions governing the use of data provided though the Canadian Space Science Data Portal (CSSDP):

CGSM data is freely available to all engaged in bona-fide academic research and education subject to the following 'rules of the road'. These conditions are not intended to deter potential users, merely to allow the Instrument PIs and their funding agencies to remain fully informed of all the uses of their data. They are also intended to encourage the users of the data to approach the Instrument teams for expert guidance in the use and interpretation of the data.

In addition to these rules the Instrument PIs may also produce a more detailed set of rules relating to their own data. These constitute part of the overall CGSM 'rules of the road'.

The use of the Data Portal and any downloaded data or data products implies acceptance of these conditions. Any unauthorised use will lead to access to the Data Portal being withdrawn from the individual and possibly also their research group or institute.

1. Use of the CGSM data for commercial gain, including product or service development such as space weather forecasting, is expressly forbidden under these guidelines.
2. The Instrument PIs should be informed of any intended use of their data or data products in presentations or publications of any kind. Where the data forms an important element of the work, then the Instrument PIs should be offered co-authorship at an early stage.
3. All presentations and publications should carry an acknowledgement to the the relevant Instrument team(s) and the CSSDP.
4. Data users are not entitled to distribute data to third parties either directly or indirectly (e.g via a publicly accessible online data set).

The custodians of the CSSDP make every effort to provide accurate and complete information. However, all services of the CSSDP are provided without warranties, expressed or implied. Use of the CSSDP is at your own risk. In no event shall CSSDP be liable to you or to any third party for any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary damages or loss of profit resulting from any use or inability to use CSSDP services. CSSDP reserves the right to withdraw access to its services.

We collect information about your usage of the portal, for statistics and security purposes, and to verify that your usage complies with the CGSM 'Rules of the Road'. This information is NOT shared with anyone beyond CSSDP administrators and data providers, except as required for the site security purposes.
